Event Details

On 3rd March, we will start walking from dusk (6pm) and will continue until dawn to take back the night for women, particularly those who have had their rights restricted or taken away.

The outdoors should be for everyone, but it doesn’t always feel that way. Issues of safety are an unwelcome fact of life for women every day, particularly during the winter months when the days are shorter and darker.

One in two women in the UK feel unsafe walking alone after dark in a quiet street  near their home, and one in five women don't ever walk alone at night.

This is in OUR power to change. And whilst this is certainly not going to happen overnight, we hope that 3 March will mark at least one night where there is a safer space for women. Where we can walk free for those who cannot.

On 3 March, we will Take The Night. Will you walk with us?

The walk is open to all, in support of women. For International Women's Day and beyond, we #EmbraceEquity.

DETAILS AND FURTHER INFORMATION

The Route: We will be meeting at 6pm on 3rd March at a location in London, and will continue walking until 6.30 am to a celebratory breakfast. For safety reasons we will not be sharing the route publicly but further information will be provided to those that are registered to participate.

Checkpoints: There will be four designated checkpoints along the route (at approximately every 3 hours) to ensure that we have sufficient snacks and water to keep us going throughout the night. We would love everyone to join us for the full night but appreciate that this may not be possible with other commitments, so please still do join us even if you can only walk for a couple of hours to a checkpoint (all of which will be close to public transport options).

Kit Requirements: As we are planning to walk for quite a few hours, please wear comfortable footwear, bring a battery pack to charge your phone and a head torch for areas which may not be well lit! Although there will be locations along the route to stock up on snacks & food, we would recommend that you have some supplies to hand.

Powered by TRIBE Freedom Foundation

The walk will be facilitated by TRIBE Freedom Foundation (a small but mighty charity on a mission to end modern slavery & human trafficking). According to the International Labour Organisation, 50 million people are estimated to be living in modern slavery globally, 6.3 million of which are in situations of forced commercial sexual exploitation. Nearly four out of every five of those trapped in forced commercial exploitation are girls or women. Systemic change is needed to tackle the deep-rooted gender inequalities which make women and girls more vulnerable to abuse, trafficking and exploitation. We have set up a campaign JustGiving page for those that wish to share and support our mission as part of this walk. 100% of funds raised are helping to further the work of TRIBE Freedom Foundation and its frontline partners to provide holistic long-term support and safehouse accommodation to survivors of modern slavery.
